Customize EBS disk space attached to AWS instances

Overview

Customize the Elastic Block Storage (EBS) disk space used. Learn more about EBS on the CGC and how to view EBS charges.

Procedure

  1. Check if your tool or workflow uses EBS instances.
  2. Customize EBS disk space.

[ Step 1 ] Check if your tool or workflow uses EBS instances

If you have already run the task...

  1. Navigate to the project containing your task.
  2. Click on the Task tab to view task stats for tasks you’ve already run.
  3. Check if your tool or workflow uses EBS instances.

If you have not run the task...

Conversely, check the AWS instance type for tools, a tool in a workflow, and workflows. If no instance type is indicated for a tool or workflow, the instance selected will depend on the CPU and memory requirements at the tool level. If these requirements are less than or equal to 8 CPU and 15GB of RAM, then the tool is set to the default instance, c4.2xlarge, with 1TB of EBS storage.

[ Step 2 ] Customize EBS disk space

Starting from August 1, you can customize the amount of Elastic Block Storage (EBS) disk space attached to different Amazon instance configurations. For example, if your tool or workflow needs a large compute but a small disk space, you will be able to choose specific instance type, and exactly specify the amount of EBS disk space you would like to attach to the instance.
