The CGC uses infrastructure from Amazon Web Services (AWS) for computation and storage on the cloud. We pass on the costs for storage and computation that we receive from AWS to users of the CGC, without any markup. During the evaluation period of the CGC we are supplying users with AWS credits free of charge, to use on the CGC. These credits allow researchers to compute on TCGA data, and use the full functionality of the CGC.

Although the CGC is based on AWS, you don't need to have an account with AWS to use the CGC; all you need is a CGC account. To create a CGC account, pre-register at cancergenomicscloud.org, and we'll be in touch when the CGC launches.

Will CGC continue to provide the service without any markup or the policy is subject to change in the future?

Hi Eric,

Thank you for your question.

The CGC is intended to be a community resource. There are no plans to markup the cost of execution. Your credits are only used when storing private data and executing tasks and only for the precise cost dictated by AWS.
