Costs associated with using data on an AWS volume

I've set up a Volume to access files from a bucket I have under my own AWS account and copied a file into a project. Does this copy incur storage charges of its own?

It doesn't incur storage charges of its own. You are importing files from Volume into the project and there is no actual data transfer, so you are not charged additionally.

Perfect. Thanks for the prompt answer.

Out of curiosity, do / how do regions for storage and compute come into play here? I assume that if a user's data were in a bucket in another region than the compute is occurring - or data from multiple regions are imported into a project - there would be data transfer charges assessed when an analysis is done?

If your bucket is on us-east-1 region there won't be any additional data egress charges for computation, as well, otherwise there will be additional charges for file transfer.
